ZAMANTI CASTLE
Melik Ghazi Castle
Melik Ghazi Castle, also known as Zamantı Castle, was built during the
Byzantine period in order to keep the Zamantı and Elbistan roads under
control, in a position dominated by Melikgazi Village, connected to the
Pazarören town of Pınarbaşı.
The hilly area on the continent of the Melikgazi Tomb was established.
After the Byzantines losing their dominance in the region, it is understood
from the traces that they have been repaired using the time of Danish-
mend, Seljuk and Ottoman respectively. It is an integrated structure with
calcareous rocks at the place where the castle is located. The castle built
during the Byzantine period was made of cut stone in a smaller scale. The
outer parts are cut with red and white stones. The inner parts are in Seljuk
technique and Horasan is in mortar fillings. The Danishmends and the
Seljuks strengthened this fortress with large cutting stones and enlarged
it. During the repair of the Seljuk period and the stones in the joints, there
are stonemark signs which are frequently used by the Seljuks. Near the
bastions of the castle a strip of black stone is cast from the neck. There are
a total of 13 towers of which nine are round, one is angular and the other
are flat. The large, round bush in the north of the castle was added later.
